About the Book

The story takes place in 2086, when corporations monitor fertility and abortion is illegal. Mae Bastet, a skilled midwife, was arrested seven years earlier for providing healthcare to women in need. She was separated from her sons and sent to Buzzard, an experimental private prison deep in the Sonoran Desert.

The prison is operated by a powerful paramilitary corporation called Obsityan. Mae wants to reunite with her family, so she tries to follow the rules and avoid trouble. She works as a nurse for the corporation’s teenage drone pilots while serving her sentence.

However, her life changes when mysterious and unusual pregnancies begin appearing among the young people under her care. Mae starts investigating and discovers disturbing secrets about the organization running the prison.

As the truth becomes clearer, Mae faces a difficult decision. She can remain silent and hope to see her sons again, or follow her beliefs and risk losing her chance to reunite with them forever.

The novel explores the dangers of corporate power, surveillance, and restrictions on personal freedom. It also highlights the strength of family bonds and the courage needed to challenge an unfair system.
