About the Book
The story follows Lucille, Catherine, and Victoria, three women invited to participate in an experimental semester at Alabama’s most prestigious university. Taking place in the years following the Civil War, their journey unfolds in a society where educational opportunities for women remain limited and traditional expectations restrict their freedom.
Each woman has a personal reason for accepting the invitation. Lucille hopes to escape her father’s control and painful memories of a past romance. Catherine wants to avoid an arranged marriage that threatens her ability to live honestly. Victoria, meanwhile, carries the guilt of a tragic incident involving a fellow mill worker.
Their challenges become more difficult when some of the male students attempt to undermine the women’s success. After their harassment goes too far, the three women form a coven disguised as a sorority and turn to Southern folklore and witchcraft for protection.
As their group grows, they uncover a darker force operating within the university. Someone is determined to drive every woman out, and the three friends must find allies, strengthen their magic, and stand together against the forces working to silence them.
Katie Ortiz blends historical struggles with supernatural mystery, exploring courage, sisterhood, identity, and the fight for equal opportunities.
