Book Summary — What is 26 Beauties About?
SFPD’s Sergeant Lindsay Boxer’s best friend, Claire Washburn, is named medical examiner of the year. But an uninvited guest crashes the Women’s Murder Club’s party: a concerned father seeking investigative reporter Cindy Thomas’s help in locating his missing daughter. And she’s not the only one.
Lindsay has been investigating the deaths of a Jane Doe washed up on a nearby beach and a young woman found in Golden Gate Park. What if all these cases are connected? Someone is hunting the city’s most vulnerable, and the count keeps rising. When Lindsay reaches out to Interpol, their warning is stark: these cases are nearly impossible to solve, and the women are almost never found alive.
Lindsay soon joins with a French man from Interpol, and they’re close to cracking the case, when shots ring out, and someone is hurt. When Lindsay finally gets the break she needs, it’s a race against time to get to the bad guys. In a different story, Yuki, who works for the district attorney’s office, is involved in a tough case, with a shocking end to it.
But “impossible” has never stopped the Women’s Murder Club before. The answers lie with the 26 Beauties — and Lindsay Boxer will not stop until every single one of them is found.
Important & Timely Theme
26 Beauties deals directly with human trafficking — one of the most serious crimes in the world today. Patterson handles this devastating subject matter with both urgency and sensitivity, shining a light on a crisis that affects millions of people globally. This is crime fiction with a real social conscience.
The Women’s Murder Club
Sergeant Lindsay Boxer — SFPD
The tough, brilliant, and deeply compassionate heart of the Women’s Murder Club. Lindsay is one of James Patterson’s greatest creations — a cop who combines razor-sharp investigative instincts with genuine emotional depth. In 26 Beauties, she faces her most important and most dangerous case yet.
Cindy Thomas — Investigative Reporter
The concerned father approaches Cindy first — setting the entire investigation in motion. Her skills as an investigative journalist prove essential as the case grows from a missing persons report into a full-scale international trafficking investigation.
Claire Washburn & Yuki Castellano
Claire — medical examiner of the year — brings her forensic expertise to the case, while Yuki’s parallel storyline at the district attorney’s office delivers its own shocking conclusion. Together, the four women of the Murder Club are unstoppable.
5 Reasons 26 Beauties is a Must Read
1. A Timely, Important Story
Human trafficking is one of the most urgent crises in the world today — and 26 Beauties puts it front and center. Patterson uses the power of his platform and his storytelling genius to shine a light on victims who are too often invisible. This is crime fiction with a genuine social purpose.
2. Classic Patterson — Short Chapters, Relentless Pace
The storylines are entertaining, engaging, suspenseful with a few unexpected twists. Patterson’s trademark short chapters and relentless pacing make 26 Beauties almost impossible to put down — readers consistently report finishing it in one or two sittings.
3. Interpol Partnership Adds International Scope
When Lindsay joins forces with a French Interpol agent, the investigation takes on a genuinely international dimension. The partnership is both dramatically compelling and adds real authenticity to the global scale of the trafficking operation they are fighting to bring down.
4. Yuki’s Parallel Storyline — Shocking Ending
Yuki’s district attorney storyline runs parallel to the main investigation and delivers its own completely unexpected conclusion. Patterson uses this dual narrative brilliantly — giving readers two separate threads of tension that converge in deeply satisfying ways.
5. Book 26 — And Still Getting Better
This is the 26th book in the series, and it’s another good one. This is one of my favorite Patterson novel series. Reaching Book 26 of any series without losing quality is a remarkable achievement — and Patterson delivers a story that feels as fresh and urgent as Book 1.
