About the Book
Avis Lovelock is a professional skeptic who dedicates her time to exposing fraudulent mediums and psychics. With sharp observation skills and a logical mind, she believes that most supernatural claims can be explained through deception.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when she is invited aboard the ocean liner Excambion, traveling to America. Her mission is to prove that the ship is not haunted before potential buyers purchase it.
However, Avis soon encounters Gideon and Rachel Duquesne, famous twin spiritualists whose beliefs directly challenge her own. Rachel, in particular, has a talent for getting under Avis’s skin, creating a tense relationship between the two women.
As Avis investigates the ship’s strange reputation, she begins experiencing disturbing visions of flooding cabins, drowned bodies, and mysterious lights flickering across the sea. These experiences become increasingly difficult to explain.
When a passenger is found dead, the mystery becomes even more dangerous. Avis must put aside her prejudices and work with the very people she intended to expose.
As the investigation unfolds, she is forced to confront the possibility that some mysteries cannot be solved through logic alone—and that her own past holds secrets she has yet to understand.
